Who is the Selkie?
One of our most enigmatic mythical women, the selkie is a shapeshifting sealwoman, who also appears in the Irish tradition as the Maighdean Mara, the mermaid or ‘Sea Maiden’, or Murúch, the merrow or ‘Sea Singer’.
A popular motif concerns a lonely man stumbling across a selkie on the beach. He becomes so enraptured by her otherworldly charm that he snatches her sealskin, fishtail, magical cape or red cap, and holds her captive on the land. The selkie eventually returns the man’s love and they birth a family together. But, as she cannot express her true nature without her sealskin, her health begins to drastically deteriorate. Her lifeforce leaks. Drip, by drip, by drip.
She cannot survive in this man’s world.
The mythical selkie has come ashore once more, entering our times to implore us to rescue our feminine sealskins not from a man’s world, but from a hypermasculine world where productivity is prized above all else.
We can never do enough. So we never feel like we are enough. We’re told to ‘lean-in’ to our masculine only and negate the feminine intelligence that lives in our bodies. Intelligence that can contribute immensely to the much-needed reimagining of our world, but isn’t valued by our capitalist societies… yet. It can start with us.
Rescuing our sealskins begins with giving power to, and valuing, our OWN feminine gifts.
Gifts like intuition, like cyclic wisdom, like magnetism. These are all feminine powers. And they’re available to you if you hear the selkie’s call.

All you need is your beloved body in comfy clothes and a quiet, safe space. A yoga mat, rug or towel can be supportive for movement on all fours.

Expect to spend 3-5 hours exploring the course content initially. As I suggest in the welcome video, this course can become a living, breathing part of your life. The Celtic Woman’s Call—Selkie is a lifelong companion; an embodiment practice you can do 1-2 times weekly when your selkie sealskin needs a boost. You will need 20-30 minutes for this practice.
